Frank

I lost a friend recently. Frank B. has died. Like me, he had Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis. Frank was miles ahead of me on his journey. He'd already received his new lung when I first him three years ago at a church meditation group. I wrote excitedly about our meeting. You can read about it again here.

Frank's wife, Suzanne send word by email of his passing.

Dear Friends,

‘It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of a loving husband and father, Frank. Positive until the end, he spoke highly of you, deeply grateful that you were part of his life’s journey. Funeral arrangements made with Hillside Funeral Home in North Bay are posted on their site should you wish further details.’

The above was written by Frank before he passed, as he wanted to make this sad period easier for his family. We wish to add a few words. He passed peacefully last evening while being surrounded by Suzanne, his sons Stephen & Adam and his daughter-in-law Carly. Family & friends were also present to provide much support and love. Although not unexpected, his health declined quite quickly over the past few days.  He was never alone. Now he is free of breathlessness and at peace.

Visitations are planned for Tuesday August 8th from 19:00 to 21:00 and Wednesday morning August 9th from 9:30 to 10:30 at **** Funeral Home in North Bay (Please refer to their website for more information as per Frank’s instructions). A funeral service is set for Wednesday August 9th at 11:00. It will take place at **** in North Bay. A small luncheon at the church will be provided after the funeral.

Frank was a friend to me. He offered Colleen (and me) comfort and freedom from fear. He assured me that Faith would see me through my illness, just as it has for him. He told me “Turn it over to Him, trust in His care, talk to Him daily and you will find both calm and solace in His presence.”

With all my heart, I believe Frank was placed in my path through the glory and grace of God.

Every day, as I sit down at my computer, I read the prayer Frank wrote. He gave me a framed copy:

Lord, touch me with Your presence,
Your hand upon me lay
That Your grace and guiding Spirit
Dwell within me on this day.

Frank’s Life was meaningful. His mentorship and his positive attitude provided hope for a fearful Colleen. News of his passing came to her as a painful reminder of the finality of IPF.

The funeral is on Wednesday morning. North Bay is a 4-hour drive, but I feel I must go to say good-bye to a friend. And to witness the last chapter in the story of this tragic disease.
